You may remember reading about the band Lake Notion in my article https://composerstoolbox.com/2018/09/04/lake-notion/. Well, they’ve written another great one–this time it’s a double release. The two tracks are titled “Magenta June” and “Doesn’t Get”. I love the clarity of sound, the guitar tones and tonal shape overall, the smooth vocals, and the ebb and flow between relaxed and cruising. I think you will really enjoy these tracks.

Here is what they have to say about these tracks:
Magenta June:
Lyrically the song depicts me (or anyone for that matter) slouching on the couch, looking out through the window at the warm, sunny day that’s just begging you to go out enjoy it, seize it. But it’s been a tough week and there’s a feeling lingering inside, gnawing at you saying that despite the influence from outside, I feel as though I’d feel much more content by just staying inside, lying on the couch, doing nothing, recuperating, recharging. And I’m a strong believer in that you should trust your inner self and those decisions that come from inside and do what you really want to do despite anything else, even if it’s staying inside when you should be out enjoying the day. And I found it interesting that sometimes you’ve got to confess to yourself that you’re dead tired to do anything, you’ve got to confess that you’re weak or unwilling in order to be happy. You should be honest with everyone, but most importantly yourself. Also, all of us in the band are strong supporters of that “one day a month where you do absolutely nothing” in order to get energised for the next coming days. It’s a religious (as in adj. treated or regarded with a devotion and scrupulousness appropriate to worship) thing in a way.
Doesn’t Get:
Lyrically “Doesn’t Get” is a part of a conversation between two people. It’s glass half full talking to glass half empty. The lyrics are told from the perspective of the optimist as he or she is expressing the many simple ways one could find joy or that silver lining in a dull day, week, month, year or maybe even a lifetime. It may be a conversation with yourself.
For example, the first verse depicts waking up from the sound of pancakes being made in the other room. The sound of a whisk hitting a bowl, the smell of freshly made pancakes sliding under the bedroom door…
This is a childhood memory of mine that I still hold dear. It doesn’t happen often these days, but when it does, I’d still get that same joyous feeling I did when I was a kid.
It’s these things you tend not to remember until you’re reminded and that’s why I wanted to encapsulate that moment in some form, so I wouldn’t forget.
The song is a reminder about one’s perspective and how only you yourself are in charge of it. It’s basically an invitation to compose yourself and enjoy life. We all have our baggage and sometimes even people to help carry the load, but in the end the message is – only you can really help “you”.
