Marty Zylstra’s (Dance) to the Beat is an energizing, rhythmic, and catchy tune featuring a mix of neo-soul, indie, and Beatles-esque styles. The chorus is infectious, and does make one want to dance.
The use of a compressed voice is effective in part because it is not overly distorted, nor lacking thickness. The orchestration using percussion, backup singers, and a grooving rhythm section lend this tune an air reminiscent of a modern Beatles tune: rife with fresh chord changes, “Ahs” in the background, and phrases such as “it’s alright”–which is not proprietary to The Beatles, but is used in a way they use similar phrases.
Take a listen! I think you will get hooked.
