Well, I guess I’m going to have to do a review of Finale v25

I am downloading Finale v25 as I type, because Finale 2014d keeps crashing after a necessary OS (operating system) upgrade to my computer.

I make it a rule to not upgrade operating systems, but it seems that when I needed to do so, I quickly learned why I generally avoid it.

Let this be a lesson to you all: beware upgrading operating systems, even out of necessity.  You may have to upgrade other software (not for free!).

That isn’t really a bad thing in the end, because it means I can review Finale v25.  As you know, I recently bought Dorico, so I can now compare the new features in Finale to Dorico.

Let the battle of the notation software commence!

  1. Hello Dan,

Did you try Lilypond with Frescobaldi as GUI? I have been using Lilypond since 10 years, tried Sibelius, Finale, … And always came back. If you get used to it it’s easy and logical and you can do everything you want. Beside that it has the best notation.

    1. Hi Hajo,
Thanks for your comment! I have not tried Lilypond because I have heard it is a lot of coding. Is the learning curve very hard? I can learn coding easily, but I worry that I would not be able to master it in good time.
